get over it

I love my Intro to Video class. It just amazes me. I always thought I was just a graphic designer; that's all I'd do, that's all I'd know. But I really love video. I can't wait for next quarter when my girlfriend hosts the first annual (maybe) WWC Guerrilla Film Festival as her senior project. My senior project still needs to be…well, in existence. I really think it would be fun to create a sort of blog/portfolio site for graphic design, new media, and art majors, as well as photography minors and communication majors with emphasis in media (specifically video). It would just be cool to be able to make a business card or a résumé that could point to your online portfolio and have it look really cool and professional. It would also save a lot of time for plenty of students who would really like to have an online portfolio but may not have the web design skills or the time to create one. All they'd have to do is log in with their already assigned school username and password and then upload PDFs, PNGs, JPGs, GIFs, or maybe even SVGs of their created artwork, or MOVs, AVIs, or MPGs of their video or animation work. I mean, how cool would that be!? I could even create (with the help of much more web-savvy people than myself) an array of templates (much like this blogging site has) that students could choose from and even manipulate themselves (with much more watered down and easy-to-use editing fields, such as: background image, repeat, location, etc.). Think of the amount of time saved: log in, choose template, slightly alter template to make more personal, upload images or video files, type a few words about the creation of each, log out. Done. Portfolio. I just hope I have the time to create such a time-saving tool. If not, I can always create a prototype and present it to the department with a detailed assessment of how much time and money it would take them to develop it. But I would totally love to be the creator of it! That would just be cool!
